Study skills

Improving each child’s ability to work independently

In order to help our pupils become independent learners, individual subject teachers guide the pupils on how to revise in their subjects before tests and exams.

Our year 6 pupils are given a lesson a week on the BOFA program, which helps to prepare them for the online pre-testing that many senior schools require. This site practises non-verbal reasoning, verbal reasoning, maths and English. In addition to this, year 6 pupils are also taught touch-typing skills.

In Years 7 and 8, pupils are given a morning of revision skills, exam techniques and tips by the company “Positively Mad”. These highly interactive workshops are designed to improve memory skills, increase self-confidence, understand the importance of reflective practices and regular review in order to prepare for exams. Pupils are given a range of creative study techniques and are shown how to remember things more easily by using their imaginations. They develop an understanding of how their brain works and how they can make it work better for them!

Pupils show initiative and work remarkably well on their own, collaboratively and with their teachers.
