At Westbourne House, we combine high expectations with deep care. We believe that every child can achieve great things if given the right blend of support and challenge. Through our commitment to High Performance Learning, we focus not only on what children learn, but how they think, helping them develop the habits that enable them to thrive now and in the future. We encourage our pupils to take risks, see mistakes as opportunities and then go further than they ever thought possible.
Set within 100 acres of beautiful grounds, there is a wonderful sense of freedom to childhood here. Whether taking part in a cricket match, sketching in the woods by our beautiful lake, performing on stage or exploring a new interest, every child is encouraged to participate, discover their strengths and find where they can truly shine.

I am enormously proud of the scholarships and successes our pupils achieve, but I take equal pride in the child who quietly helps a friend, shows resilience in the face of disappointment or finds the confidence to try something new. Character matters. Kindness matters. Manners, respect and consideration for others matter. These values lie at the heart of the Westbourne Way and shape the culture of our school every day.
One of the greatest lessons children learn at school is how to get on well with others. We want our pupils to be confident but not arrogant, ambitious but compassionate, and comfortable enough in their own skin to celebrate both their own successes and those of others. I often remind children that spirited competition is healthy, but constant comparison is not. Every child develops at their own pace. As Charlie Mackesy beautifully observes, "Some flowers bloom later than others, and they are spectacular when they do." Our aim is not to create children who all look and think the same, but young people who are willing to run their own race, sing their own song and be proud of who they are."
I believe that Years 7 and 8, at the top of Westbourne House, are the golden years of your child's educational journey. Through leadership opportunities, increasing independence and greater responsibility, pupils make remarkable progress whilst building a strong sense of self within our kind and supportive community.

As a proudly independent prep school, we are able to focus on finding the right senior school for each individual child. Our measure of success is not simply where a child goes next, but how they contribute and thrive when they get there.
My own children attended Westbourne before my wife, Milly, and I joined the school professionally, allowing us to experience its warmth, ambition and sense of community first-hand as parents before I had the privilege of becoming Headmaster.
