Outside explorers

During these years, children develop faster physically, cognitively and emotionally than at any other time and therefore their experiences have an enormous impact.

Our Nursery children immerse themselves in outdoor activities for hours each day, engaged in natural exploration, problem-solving and enriched learning experiences.

Early Years Outdoor Learning Area

Step outside with our pupils and you'll witness more than just play. You'll see collaboration in action as the children work together, confident decision-making as they explore their surroundings and resilience blossoming with each small challenge they overcome.

These are just some of the life skills our pupils develop, nurtured by the wonder of the outdoors and supported by our Early Years experts.

The large Early Years Outdoor Learning Area, has up-to-date outdoor play equipment:

  • Climbing opportunities for upper body and core strength
  • A den building area for relationship building and confidence in problem solving.
  • A stage and musical area for singing, dancing and role play
  • A water wall for maths skills as well as fine and gross motor development
  • Sand play for sensory development and working together

Secret Garden

Our Nursery opens out onto the enchanting ‘Secret Garden’, a wonderful additional outdoor space with a mud kitchen, planting area, mini movable obstacle course, a sand pit and plenty of space to be active.

Our Woods

In our busy world, it is wonderful to head to the woods and give our Nursery children time to be immersed in sensory experiences – the feeling of wind and rain on their face, mud on their hands, hearing the birds in the trees and the crunch of leaves underfoot.

“Over a few weeks, the children grow enormously in confidence and resilience. It is a joy to be a part of their developing curiosity and love of nature.”

Happy, Healthy Children

The curriculum encourages movement, climbing and active discovery. Beyond this, our children have weekly PE sessions to practise a range of skills, such as balancing, hand-eye coordination, jumping and ball skills, and to develop core strength.

In the summer term before Reception, our Nursery children have swimming lessons in the school pool with our qualified swim teachers. It is, of course, lots of fun with songs and splashing and the lessons build confidence, water safety knowledge and swimming skills.

Our Nursery children can also opt to take ballet lessons during the week.
