We ensure your child's transition from Nursery to Reception is happy and confident.
Learning and growing together
Our 3–4-year-old Nursery children share an outdoor learning environment with our Reception cohort. This allows our younger children to develop their social skills and language naturally through play and engagement with older peers. As the Pre-Prep is only next door, we visit quite often for special events such as celebration assemblies. Nursery children who stay for lunch also eat with the Pre-Prep children every day.
Strengthening foundations
As our Nursery children approach Reception age, we teach phonics and mathematics in a more structured way in group and circle times, building on play-based learning.
Connection to the Pre-Prep
To help the Nursery children feel comfortable in the Pre-Prep School setting, our Reception and Nursery children get together each week for an assembly with Mrs Rogers, our Early Years Foundation Stage lead. Mrs Rogers also spends time in the Nursery each week with the children.
A taste of life in the Pre-Prep
In the summer term, the older Nursery children have the exciting opportunity to join the weekly Pre-Prep singing assemblies. Mrs Lewis, our other Reception teacher and music specialist, visits the Nursery on a regular basis for music lessons. Our Nursery pupils also start swimming lessons in preparation for their weekly lessons in Reception.
A caring team
The Early Years team works collaboratively across Pre-Nursery to Reception to create a holistic, consistent, nurturing environment for its children. Frequently called a ‘magical experience’, our Nursery is the perfect way to begin the Westbourne House journey.
All of these measures make for a seamless transition; children run into school on their first day full of confidence and with a big smile on their face.
