At Westbourne House School, we encourage friendships across the year groups and create regular opportunities for pupils to spend time together. This half term, our Year 3 pupils teamed up with Year 1 for a some 'roarsome' activities.
Our resident paleontologists (Year 1) and our volcanologists (Year 3) worked together to create a perfect landscape habitat for dinosaurs in the shadow of the great mountain. Using bark, moss, wood and colouring they created the perfect scene.
In the centre of each world was a stunning volcano constructed by the Year 3 children as part of their volcano topic. But was the mountain a protector or a destroyer, only time would tell.
With a little science, the volcano erupted, bringing the scene to life and creating a fizzing spectacle!

The pyroclastic flow tumbled down the sides of the great mountains blanketing everything in its path. Fortunately many dinosaurs escaped to the nearby water sources cleverly added by the creators of the landscapes.
Well done Year 1 and Year 3.
Sharing experiences like this helps younger pupils feel more at ease as they move through the school, while older pupils enjoy taking on a supportive role. It’s a simple but valuable way of building confidence and a strong sense of community across all ages.
From volcanologists to archeologists!
Year 3 have been busy in their topic and science lessons learning about the world beneath our feet. They made realistic ammonites out of salt dough before heading out on a fossil hunt!
Circled around the huge sandpit, our young archeologists carefully chiseled and brushed the sand away to uncover and extract their treasured finds.
