VE Day Celebrations

In the run up to VE Day, teachers talked about the importance of VE Day and encouraged children to plan for their Stay Home Save Lives VE Day celebrations.

Children in the Pre-Prep flew their homemade Spitfires, coloured in flags and bunting, and wrote their list for their VE Day party. They also played traditional games that children would have played during the war including hide and seek, skipping and hopscotch.

Pupils shared photos of brave grandparents, who fought in the war, with pride.

They waved their home made Union Jack flags during their contact and circle times.

In Maths, further up the school, pupils worked on code breaking and the Year 7s pretended they were WWII Chief Intelligence Officers completing an operation using bearings in the garden.

Well done to Elizabeth, who took the lovely black and white photos of VE Day celebrations near her home.

In the gallery below, you might spot a little boy holding up a picture of his great grandfather, who was Wing Commander Sidney Patrick Daniels, known as Pat. He was a path finder - bomber pilot and as you can see from the photo he received some important medals: two distinguished service orders (DSO) and two (DSF) distinguished flying crosses.  Incredibly, he flew 95 missions, when the average survival was eight.
