Showcasing loved tales by Roald Dahl

Year 4’s very own exclusive evening of drama - a showcase of four short plays from Roald Dahl’s extraordinary repertoire - aimed to give every pupil a role and their moment of fame. Preparation for the play involved studying some fairly whacky characters from terrified piglets, to fearless grandfathers and wicked headmistresses.

Parents were wowed with colourful, amusing scenes and dramatic events including the moment when champion gum-chewer Violet Beauregarde blows up into a giant blueberry; Miss Trunchbull forces the children to eat a massive cake and they end up cover in chocolate custard; and the sight of Augustus Gloop falling dramatically into the chocolate river, before being swept away and then spotted squashed in a pipe against a top window of Millennium Hall (up a ladder outside for those who wish to know the backstage secrets).

The key aims of rehearsing and presenting these dramatic plays have been to provide tuition in basic stage skills and importantly to create a true sense of teamwork. Collaboration, responsibility, negotiation and perseverance are examples of key life skills best started young and these all-inclusive projects deliver this in abundance.

The evening saw passionate performances and gave every pupil the incomparable buzz of live performance.

Our grateful thanks to our parents for putting in exceptional effort with the costumes - we are hugely grateful for your time.
