Roman ruins and a visit from Boudicca

Our Year 3 pupils have been learning all about the Romans this term!

Following on from creating some stunning recruitment posters for the perfect Roman soldiers, the children experienced a sunny morning delving back into the past at Fishbourne Roman Palace where they enjoyed exploring the remains of this great palace by the sea.

Year 3 teacher Mrs Pitman said: “Having something so special on our doorstep is wonderful and the children were quite in awe. The workshop was very informative and the children all had a go at spinning wool, building bridges, writing using ink, writing on a wax tablet, making mosaics, playing Roman board games and not forgetting getting busy in the kitchen preparing the food, grinding the wheat grains and carrying the wine and water.

“There was role play and dressing up for some lucky children and the sunny morning drew us all outdoors to enjoy looking at the formal gardens. Fishbourne Roman Palace really was an impressive place, fit for a king!”

The children were also lucky enough to receive a visit to the classroom from Boudicca! This created great hilarity in the junior department as history was bought to life. Boudicca answered lots of questions about her family and her battles but she would not comment on whether she was, in fact, Year 3 teacher Mrs Champion-Luff.
