The Westbourne spirit was alive and kicking at our OW Hockey Festival.
A whoosh of Old Westbournians (new collective noun) returned for a full-sized Reds v Whites match, played over four quarters with plenty of time for catchups, refreshments and a little recovery between bursts of game time.
There were some fantastic shots on goal, keeping keepers Hazel (‘25) and Mr Pitman busy throughout.
With six minutes to play, the Reds were leading 2–1 when Casper (‘24) whipped in a superb cross to the near post that slipped past Mr Pitman’s pads to level the score.
So it came down to a penalty shoot-out. Starting with the youngest OW, Vivien (‘25), the tension built with goals, a save and one over the bar… until finally Hazel produced a stupendous save to win it for the Whites.
A wonderful afternoon of hockey, laughter and reconnecting. Westbourne House – for life!
