Music round-up - March 2024

A short but busy half term began with the Chapel Choir taking the short trip to Arundel Parish Church, where they performed a lunchtime concert to a small but appreciative audience. It was a useful chance to sing through some of the repertoire for their forthcoming Paris tour. This was closely followed by the ‘Spring Soiree’, held at the home of Lord and Lady Mersey, Bignor Park, where Mr Dichmont and Mr Allum performed some wonderful piano music to a capacity audience in the beautiful Library. Both of these events, along with the Chapel Choir’s concert at Boxgrove Priory during the last week of term, were successful in raising funds for the Paris tour, enabling the choir to take part in some memorable activities during their stay in this wonderful city.

We enjoyed two Performance Platforms this half term, the latter primarily consisting of those who were preparing to take exams. Speaking of which, it was wonderful to receive news of some very pleasing results, with particular congratulations going to those who achieved Distinctions:

  • Beatrice D - Initial Piano
  • Bertie G - Initial Piano
  • Filip A - Initial Piano
  • Michal S - Initial Piano
  • Walter M - Initial Piano
  • Matthew K - Initial Piano
  • Jamie R - Grade 1 Piano
  • George H- Grade 3 Trumpet
  • Lucas M - Grade 4 Piano

Our annual World Music Workshop, led by Jim Bernadin, was once again enjoyed by all. Jim managed to take us on a journey around the world, with music from India, South America and Africa all featuring! The Year 3s and 4s were transfixed by Jim’s enthusiasm for the culture and music of these places, and thoroughly enjoyed performing what they had been practising for their parents later in the day.

The Chapel Choir now have a two week break before they depart for Paris, where they will sing at the Eglise Madeleine, Eglise Saint Sulpice, and Beauvais Cathedral. You can follow their progress on the school’s social media accounts.
