Music Round-Up March 2020

Mr Allum's round up from the Music Department.

The major musical event this half term was the Spring Performance Platform, which saw a plethora of lovely performances from pupils across the year groups.

Our youngest participant was Finn in Year 2, who has only been learning the piano for a few months. He gave a confident performance of Sailor’s Hornpipe by Hall, followed by Hebe from Year 3 giving a splendid account of Study in Pink by Watts on the recorder.

Other highlights included Marcus playing Schubert’s Serenade on the oboe, Tilly giving a lovely performance of The Rainbow Song by Wood on the flute, followed by another flautist, Isabelle, giving a very accomplished performance of Vivace by Telemann. A group from the Chapel Choir impressed with their performance of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mate, whilst Jemima gave us a terrific account of Dance by Gordon Jacob on the viola. The evening finished with a performance of Poulenc’s Flute Sonata by our flute teacher, Ms Twite, accompanied by Mr Allum.

Music exams took place with some excellent results to report. Congratulations to the following, who were all awarded Distinctions:

Jemima Whitehead - Grade 8 Viola
Isabelle Aston - Grade 5 Flute
Charlie Allday - Grade 5 Piano
William Womersley - Grade 3 Drums
Anoushka Haxworth - Grade 2 Singing
Penny Clarke - Grade 2 Flute
Alexis Bartholomew - Grade 1 Singing
Bea Nelson - Grade 1 Singing
Freddie Tallis - Grade 1 Drums

Whilst our Chapel Choir were sadly not able to perform their scheduled concert at Boxgrove Priory prior to their postponed tour to Rome, some of them were able to record a parting gift for the school community on the last day of term. A fitting and uplifting anthem, Look to the Day by John Rutter gives us all something to look forward to in these uncertain days ahead.
