Mr and Mrs Gao share traditions

Year 3 and 4 were treated to an assembly led by Jay's parents, Mr and Mrs Gao. They came in to tell us all about the traditions surrounding Chinese New Year.  Some children had prepared a few questions including:

Do you do anything special to decorate your homes during Chinese New Year?
Please can you tell us about the animals?
How do your family celebrate Chinese New Year?
How long does Chinese New Year last?
What is the importance of the colour red?

The answers were fascinating and opened up the children's understanding of this important celebration. Mr Gao shared the importance of shared dumplings in the multiple celebrations that make up Chinese New Year.  Mrs Gao told us about the Chinese horoscope animals and everyone worked out their birth year animal.  Years 3 and 4 say 'thank you' to the Gaos.
