Tomorrow's leaders: a day of communication, courage and creativity for Years 5 & 6.
How do you teach leadership skills? "By talking about the skills and giving pupils the opportunity to practice," said Mrs Cook, Head of Girls Sport, who ran the leadership day for Years 5 & 6. She selected a variety of games and activities to encourage good communication, courage and creativity. Some of the highlights included making s’mores around a campfire, playing fruit salad and untangling a human knot.
Mrs Cook commented: “Pupils found out that there are often different ways to solve the same problem.”
Alongside team games, pupils also learnt a new game, Danish Longball, and our teachers found the children to be very agile-minded.
“Learning to collaborate, communicate and sometimes compromise are the empathetic skills that children can practice through days like this, which enable our pupils to thrive in the future.”
Barbara Langford, Deputy Head - Academic.
In the woods, each pupil was responsible for finding wood for the fire and their dens. They toasted marshmallows and had the treat of making a s’more with the resulting goo!
Beth Armitage, Head of History, said: "The day was beautifully organised and our pupils were engaged from start to finish."
