Girls' sport round-up - July 19

The end of another busy and successful year of girls’ sport. Success can mean lots of different things and it can mean different things to different people. On this occasion, I see success as the progress made, the enjoyment had and the number of opportunities provided. I hope everyone has a great summer break.

Rounders and Cricket:

U13s

The girls didn’t have any more inter-school rounders matches in the second half of term but they did have the much anticipated pupils v parents leavers matches! Both of the girls’ teams came out victorious!

Both the As and Bs had two more cricket matches in the second half of term. The As won both of theirs and the Bs won one and lost one. I know that Mrs Sleep and Miss Williams have been very pleased with your progress and we hope you continue to play cricket at your senior schools. I hope you have all had an enjoyable last term of sport at Westbourne House!

U12s

The A team's season has been stronger in cricket than rounders as they unfortunately lost their rounders matches. However after a very narrow loss in the cricket before half term they won both of their matches this half term.

The Bs won their last rounders match and finished the cricket season unbeaten! They also received ‘team of the week’ for their fantastic attitude and supportive sportsmanship.

U11s

In rounders everyone got to compete in the Westbourne tournament and the A team finished 3rd. The A team beat Ditcham Park and the Bs narrowly lost to Oakwood. In cricket there were a few matches cancelled due to poor weather and the Hampshire tournament had to be abandoned. The As and Bs lost to Cranleigh but the Cs won their match. All of the girls have worked enthusiastically in training and there has been good progress made in both sports.

U10s

The U10B team didn’t have any rounders matches in the second half of term but the As had the Windlesham tournament where they finished 4th.

The As had another three cricket matches winning all of them. They also came 3rd in the Brighton College tournament. The Bs had three very close matches; losing one by five runs, winning one by six runs and winning another one by just four runs! Well done – nail biting stuff! All of the girls' confidence has grown in both sports and they communicate well and support each other.

Y5/6 Inter Patrol Rounders results:

1st  Tigers
2nd  Panthers
3rd  Owls
4th  Otters

U9s

Unfortunately there weren’t any rounders matches for them this half of term due to the other school cancelling but they did have their inter-patrol matches (results below).

In cricket the A team beat Cranleigh while the B team lost by just one run. The Bs and Cs also played Dorset House and Great Ballard and won both of these.

Mr Brown has said that the progress everyone has made is quite incredible and the potential they have is exciting! The Friday morning nets session has been well attended. He also mentioned that on numerous occasions this season they have completed a match and no one has asked the result. That is not to say that they are not competitive but the participation and having fun is far more important. Long may this continue….

U8s

The U8s have had one rounders and one cricket inter-school match this half term and won both of them. I have been so impressed with them this term. Learning both sports quickly and being a force to be reckoned with on the pitch.
