Charity goodbyes

As we come to the end of two years of fundraising, we would like to congratulate and thank Mrs Barker and our wonderful Charity Committee, all our pupils, staff and parents for raising a phenomenal £78,105 for our school charities.

We've enjoyed welcoming all three charities to the school over the Christmas term to give them their donation of £19,526. They heard from pupils about how the money was raised - runs, walks, challenges, triathlons, birthday present donations, parties, baking, making, selling - the list was brilliantly varied and inventive.

The charities also told our pupils about the impact of their hard work, kindness and generosity:

  • Thembalitsha Foundation (South Africa) -  Pupils were delighted to hear from Andre Botha that the funds will go a long way to help vulnerable children living in informal settlements through the charity's early Childhood Learning Centres. The children were also grateful to hear from co-founder, Katherine (Kate) Christie, who thanked the children and their parents outside the National Assembly, the home of the parliament of the Republic of South Africa.
  • Surfers Against Sewage - It was brilliant to meet Sophie Brandon from Surfers Against Sewage and hear first hand how hard SAS are working to end sewage and plastic pollution in the UK. Sophie explained to our pupils how the funds we have raised will help all areas of the SAS campaign to clean up our ocean and win transformational reform of the UK water industry.
  • Homestart Chichester - "Having a happy childhood can affect your life all the way through," Lois Rowlands told pupils when she visited. Homestart Chichester is a local charity that supports families with young children through challenging times. Lois was bowled over by the amount of money donated. She added: “Thank you so much. You have made such a big difference to the lives of little children all around you.”
