Anglo-Saxons and Beowulf

Years 3 and 4 continue to be enthralled by the Anglo-Saxons. This week they were visited by Mr Dilly, a long-time favourite at Westbourne House.

Mr Dilly wowed the Year 3 and 4s with cloak and sword in their performance of Beowulf, a poem originally written in West Saxon more than 1,000 years ago. The children loved the interactive theatre and Mr Dilly's sense of fun. They reaffirmed and built on their new knowledge.

One Year 4 pupil said: "We thought we were just having fun but we were learning."

A Year 3 child said the best bit was "using the swords and I was not expecting the head to be chopped off!"

"He really brought to life the story of Beowulf. It was exciting and I really enjoyed it."
