Victorian mince pies

Delicious smells of Victorian mince pies are wafting through the air!

Mrs Armitage’s Year 5 class have been learning about Victorians outside the classroom by baking some Victorian mince pies with Food Tech Teacher Mrs Bonn.

Mrs Armitage, Head of History, said: "Many Victorians did choose to include ox tongue in their festive treats and so Year 5 were relieved to know that Mrs Bonn had provided us with meat free mincemeat for our pies! They had a fantastic time creating delicious treats to take home.

"Year 5 had been learning all about life in Victorian Britain and have spent the last week finding out about Victorian Christmas traditions and making links between our experiences of Christmas in the 21st Century. They have found out all about the first Christmas card being sent, the popularisation of the Christmas tree by Queen Victorian and her family and the change from Christmas being a very public occasion to the family celebrations we all enjoy today. This was a wonderful way to bring our topic to an end. A huge thank you to Mrs Bonn for making it happen!"
