Stepping into the shoes of international diplomats

Our pupils debated global issues, negotiated with fellow delegates, responded to unexpected crises and put their learning to the test.

At the Mini Model United Nations at Bryanston, our young diplomats represented Greece with confidence, curiosity and impressive teamwork, putting Westbourne House’s core learning skills into action and ultimately being named Top Country overall.

Reporting from the Model United Nations

A delegation of six future diplomats travelled to Bryanston to represent Greece at the Mini Model United Nations: Tymek, Chloe, Darcy, Rose, Ben and Lily.

Learning to think like diplomats

The UN was founded in 1945 to maintain global peace and protect human rights. It is as important as ever that the next generation of diplomats learn how to debate respectfully, continue to make relationships and develop critical analysis skills.

The conference put Westbourne House’s core learning skills into active practice:
  • Empathy: Understanding other nations' perspectives and collaborating effectively with teammates and fellow countries.
  • Linking: Exercising big-picture thinking to navigate global issues.
  • Creating: Developing original, actionable solutions to complex world problems.

Tackling global challenges

  • Lily and Rose were debating Global Food Inequality in the World Health Organisation (WHO).
  • Tymek and Darcy were debating Tensions in the Polar Regions in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), where they were awarded a Commendation.
  • Chloe and Ben were debating Gender Equality in Education in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), receiving a Highly Commended.

Each debate demanded careful research, clear communication and the ability to listen, respond and adapt to different viewpoints.

Thinking on their feet

The conference culminated in the General Assembly, where all the delegates united to tackle a sudden crisis: a rogue AI robot had seized territory and was attempting to establish an independent AI state.

Demonstrating exceptional diplomacy, quick thinking, and teamwork throughout the crisis and committee sessions, Greece (Westbourne House) was awarded Top Country overall.

Congratulations to our young diplomats on a stellar performance!
