School Concert packed with impressive performances

The School Concert was another highly entertaining evening, with all of the school’s ensembles performing to a very high standard, along with some exceptional soloists.

The Senior Choir kicked the evening off with two Cole Porter classics, featuring some beautiful harmonising. The Junior Choir were equally impressive with two songs from The Lion King, and the Chapel Choir brought tears to some eyes with three sacred songs, including Bob Chilcott’s Irish Blessing. The Shopwyke Quartet were also superb with Peter Martin’s Blues, Ballad and Boogie

Soloists included Leo Mazrani (flute) playing Jive Talk by Nikki Iles, Jemima Whitehead (viola) with Reverie by Wieniawski, Oscar Tallis (trombone) with an exceptional performance of Let’s call the whole thing off by Gershwin, and Josh Barratt (clarinet) with Tattletale by Benny Goodman, impressively performed from memory.

The Big Band were in fine form with a performance of It don’t mean a thing, featuring some sensational solo improvisations, and the Second Orchestra had everyone rocking in the aisles with a performance of Rock around the Clock. The Orchestra rounded things off with an assured performance of Mars and Jupiter from The Planets by Holst.

The School Concert is one of many performance opportunities at Westbourne.
