Pushing boundaries on Westbourne Award

Our Westbourne Awards are adventurous and challenging expeditions that encourage personal development and new skills.  Children in Year 5 have just returned from their Bronze Award to Bristol. All Westbourne House staff and ‘Way Ahead’ Instructors agreed that it was an absolute pleasure to spend three days with such a super bunch of kids.

From the moment we arrived they rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in to a fantastic variety of activities. Activities that challenged their teamwork and pushed their own comfort boundaries. The aerial trek and muddy wet cold obstacle course were two favourites. It was fantastic to watch the support that was offered to all from the sidelines, but particularly to those that found these challenging. Another popular activity was ‘camp craft’ with fire building and the obligatory marshmallows.

The evenings were filled with fun group games from memory challenges to walking a beam. We all took away many happy memories and I am confident that everyone benefitted in so many different ways from the whole experience. A big thank you to the amazing ‘Way Ahead’ team for putting together and coordinating such a great few days and to the staff for giving up their time to support this wonderful initiative. And finally a big thank you to all Y5 for accepting the challenge and being such super representatives of Westbourne House.
