Our School of Rock

Year 8 put on their final production

Our Year 8 pupils delivered an extremely powerful performance in the last week of term, absolutely nailing their final Westbourne House production, School of Rock.

From the tight dance routines, to the outrageously strong sound and awesome sense of fun, Year 8’s production of School of Rock was extremely impressive!

“It was just fantastic. I don’t have any words! It was just amazing. How they do that in just 10 days is beyond me. As Head of Year 8, I could not be prouder of their performance, their confidence, and their incredible resilience.”

Mrs Brown, Head of Year 8

Year 8 pupils took on this musical with ultimate vigour. Everyone gave their absolute all – the energy was incredible - which left you with the feeling that you were watching a professional West End musical.

School of Rock is, of course, a comedy and yet ultimately, the Year 8s took their characters on a journey, showing us their depth and progression. We loved watching the strict elite private elementary school head, Mrs Mullins, remember what it is like to have fun, and for the children to learn to believe in themselves thanks to “Mr Schneebly” and his unorthodox (and unqualified) teachings. We all shared the huge sense of triumph when it all comes good…in the end!

“The cast were so committed. There can’t have been a better Year 8 show," said a Westbourne House parent.

Thank you to...

Mr Cousens, who works phenomenally hard to deliver incredible productions for each and every year group. It is within the Year 8 pupils that we most clearly see the sheer level of confidence, attack and enthusiasm that he instils in them - we cannot wait to see what these pupils achieve at their senior schools!

Mr Dichmont and his music team, who worked with all the cast to give them the confidence to lift the roof in every song, and to the house band which helped to create the incredible West End feel.

Harriet Baxendale, who coordinates hair, makeup and costumes. Her work does not stop until long after the performance has ended. It was an incredibly hot day and she was keeping the children cool, finding misplaced props and fixing costumes. We are so lucky to have her.
