Music Round-Up - December 2020

Although we have not been able to do a lot of what would normally happen at this time of year, that has not stopped the Performing Arts Centre from being abuzz with festive spirit!

The term ended with the production of the school’s Carol Service, which was released as a high quality video production. Featuring performances from a selection of pupils in each year group, along with Bible readings and poems, this was a lovely way to bring the term to a close.

It was wonderful that the Advent Service could take place in Boxgrove Priory as normal, albeit with a restricted congregation. Broadcast live on Facebook, this was a special event in so many ways, being the first ‘live’ performance we have given in many months. The Year 8s did a splendid job, particularly given that most of their rehearsals had been on Zoom due to them having to self-isolate in the two weeks prior!

The School Concert in November, broadcast on Zoom, featured all of the school’s ensembles alongside some of our top musicians providing solo performances. The Orchestra, which had rehearsed in small groups all term, were on splendid form with performances of Colonel Bogey and Handel’s Royal Fireworks, whilst the Year 7 and 8 Chapel Choir choristers gave moving performances of Annie’s Song, and Deep River respectively.

Pupils in Years 4 and 5 performed brilliantly in their live-streamed Performance Platforms. Sadly, the planned concerts with Years 3 and 7 were postponed due to the children needing to self-isolate, but these will take place next term instead.

If you haven't yet seen one, please do watch the Year 6 Performance Platform
