Learning about solar power

Fossil fuels are running out but the sun never runs out. This is what the Year 3 and 4 children were discussing this week with Tracy Linney from Solar Power Education, as they learnt about solar farms and carbon footprints. The terrible weather meant they could not visit Merston Solar Farm but back at school they had huge amounts of fun working out their carbon footprints and how much electricity they use at home - the kettle being the worst offender, and the hair dryer not far behind.

"It was really interesting - I never knew I used so much energy, even though we have solar panels. "

Pupil, Year 4

Another pupil added: "We learnt about watts - it was really cool."
