Learning about orchestral instruments

Our Year 3 pupils have been learning about all of the different orchestral instruments in class, so they were very pleased to see them all in action at the spectacular Children’s Concert performed by the Southern Pro Musica Orchestra at Chichester Festival Theatre.

Music teacher Mr Allum said: "After an introduction to the orchestra by our narrator for the morning, Neil Henry, we were treated to performances of pieces including the ‘William Tell’ Overture, The Magnificent Seven, The Blue Danube and an incredibly impressive piece for solo xylophone called Taps in Tempo.

"Lots of the children recognised these pieces, and a few even recognised a member of the orchestra as being our very own Mrs Peskett!"

"The orchestra’s conductor, Jonathan Willcocks, has written many songs for children and we were lucky enough to hear two of them during this concert. The first, How the Whale got his Throat, was a story narrated by Neil and accompanied by the orchestra. The second was The Wigwam Song that gave all the children in the audience a chance to sing along and even try out some choreography. "

The music was really good and there were stories, jokes and magic tricks - it was epic!
