Great Westbourne Bake Off Finals

After an intense and immensely pleasurable term of Bake Off action, and extremely competitive finals, this year's winners were announced in the final assembly of the Christmas term.

The Star Bakers were MN in the junior category with her Snow Globe Cupcakes, and JTF, in the senior category, with his Classic Miniature Christmas Cakes.

The winners were presented with a goody bag of cooking equipment and all our fabulous finalists received a very special Great Westbourne Bake Off apron. Well done, everyone!

"Congratulations to all of our finalists, and indeed everyone who took part in this year's competition, all of whom baked valiantly and with lashings of pride.

Great Westbourne Bake Off Finalists

Senior Final

With finalists from Years 6, 7 and 8 competing for the ultimate prize of Senior Bake Off winner, the bakes were high! The finalists selected a favourite festive recipe to cook and displayed ounces of patience whilst mastering their signature bakes. From Year 6, Anya conjured up some tasty Chocolate & Candy Cane Muffins and Olive whisked up a delicious Chocolate & Orange Brownie Cake. Representing the Year 7s, Vivien sculpted a Classic Chocolate log, with Cynthia choosing to create some scrumptious Chocolate Cookies with a festive twist. The Year 8s treated us to some sumptuous Kiddie Craft Inspired Cookies, lovingly baked by Imogen and James mastered a firm favourite, miniature Christmas Cakes.

After an hour and a half of creating, titivating and adding their very own personal flare, the bakes were judged by returning adjudicator and esteemed Food Writer, Alex Halswell. It was an outstanding morning of baking, with many nervous, yet happy faces, throughout the experience.

Junior Final

There were a few nerves to start with but our young bakers soon eased into baking with the help of their trusty recipes – and some deep breathing! The room was filled with a heady mixture of sweet, festive smells. Despite the occasional need for a sprinkle of dust from the 'Agility can' (one of Mrs Bonn’s HPL condiments, which helps you to think around problems and setbacks), there was a general sense of calm in the kitchen.

An impressive array of creations was whipped up by our under 11s, including Edwina’s Sparkling Santa Cookies, Noa’s Rudolf-inspired Cookies, Mila’s Snowglobe Cupcakes, Izzy’s Festive Apple Rock Cakes, Mimi’s Flourless Chocolate Log and Sebby’s Chocolatey Profiteroles. A veritable feast of treats indeed for our guest judge, Alex Halswell, to devour and savour in the splendour of what our amazing young finalists achieved.
