Exploring rivers

Year 4 had a wonderful (and wet) morning at Fishbourne (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) looking at rivers. Rivers has been their topic this term and they were able to show off their new knowledge to the workshop leaders, for example, what the source, the mouth and an estuary are. They also learnt lots of fascinating information about rivers and more technical terms, such as when a smaller stream meets a bigger stream is is called a tributary!

Year 4 teacher Miss Hannan said: “They had so much fun, they went into the river and measured the heights of the banks as well as the water level to find out where is the channel (the deepest part of the river). All the children had opportunities to get involved and it was wonderful to see so many smiling faces!"
