Chicks hatch, swimming begins

Chicks have hatched

The eggs arrived a week ago in the Nursery, bringing a wave of excitement and curiosity.

The children's patience paid off and our Nursery pupils are now enjoying the opportunity to observe and gently handle the newly-hatched chicks. It has been a wonderful, hands-on learning experience, enriching their vocabulary with words such as egg, incubator, pipping, hatch and brooding box. We are always keen to create a language-rich environment and moments like these bring learning vividly to life.

Alongside the ducklings, our butterflies have now emerged from their cocoons, and we have welcomed fish into the Nursery too. All these experiences give the children a meaningful introduction to life cycles, while nurturing a sense of care and empathy.

Swimming lessons begin

In the summer term, our older nursery children have swimming lessons on Friday mornings.

Mrs Watson, Head of Nursery, organised a gentle introduction, beginning with meeting swim teacher Mrs Wootton. They also walked to the swimming pool, involving discussions about crossing the road safely, climbing the stairs carefully and practising removing their shoes and socks before entering the pool area.

Mrs Watson said: "It was another great opportunity for the nursery children to thrive, build confidence, develop new skills and flourish in the wonderful setting of Westbourne House."
