Art Attack - October 2021

All pupils spend two creative hours in art and technology lessons every week. Here is a snapshot of what they have been up to...

Year 8

Year 8 visited Chichester Cathedral at the start of their new art project: cathedral architecture meets Pop Art culture. The children explored the inside and outside of the cathedral; they had time to complete detailed sketches and to take stunning photographs of the cathedral and its surroundings.

Now back in the classroom, the children are planning what will be an acrylic painting on A2 canvas. We are really excited to follow the children on their journey and to see their final creations hanging on the wall in our gallery and art rooms.

Year 7

Pupils in Year 7 began by using construction and ghost lines to sketch a section of a red pepper and have now finished adding colour in oil pastels.

Year 6

Year 6 pupils are creating artwork inspired by pop artist Keith Haring.  The final piece will be finished in acrylic.

Year 5

Our Year 5 artists visited The Sealife Centre in Brighton to gain first-hand sketching experience of stunning sea creatures.

Head of Art, Lisa Jeram, said: “The children sketched fish, turtles, stingrays and seahorses, to name but a few. They paid close attention to detail, colour, the environment and the underwater life.

“They touched starfish and they had so many good questions to ask about the sealife in the centre – we watched the fish being fed and a naughty stingray decided to splash us as we watched!”

Back in the classroom, the children have planned their one point perspective piece of artwork, which is set inside an aquarium. The children are planning for the magic of the underwater to jump off the page and grab you."

Juniors

Year 4 have been taking their sewing machine driving licence - it's very important to learn the basic skills and even more exciting when they pass!  In their art lessons, they've been painting sunflowers.

Making the most of the sunshine, Year 3 have sketched Main House outside.  In Technology, they tie dyed a t-shirt in autumnal colours and spray painted their own individual pumpkin on top. They finished with a mini fashion show.
