Martin Barker

Headmaster of Westbourne House
Headteacher

I joined Westbourne in January 2007 as Deputy Head, and was appointed as Head in April 2011. I feel very privileged to be able to lead what is unquestionably a fantastic school in so many respects.  I have written more about my philosophy of education and what a school should provide for children in the ‘Headmaster’s Welcome’.

I am a graduate of Exeter University, where aside from graduating in Educational Studies, Sport and Science, I spent a great deal of time playing sport. I was captain of the University 1st XI cricket for three years, as well as playing in various representative sides. I also played basketball to British Universities and National League level, along with soccer and both codes of rugby to a decidedly less serious level! Nowadays I keep fit largely by cycling and on the golf course. Slightly more sedentary interests include reading, current affairs and travel.

I started my teaching career at a school in London, followed by twelve years at Papplewick School in Ascot, primarily as a Science teacher and sports coach.
