Evening adventures in the boarding houses

Our boarding accommodation is unique: we have seven boarding houses which sets us apart from most, if not all, other prep schools. The houses have their own identity and are hosted by houseparents, creating a lovely, family atmosphere. Each house has its own vibe and highlights. Here are a few recent examples...

Pear Tree Lodge
Tuesday night at Pear Tree is Challenge Night!  Mr and Mrs Smith commented: "The girls rush down on a Tuesday to find out what the challenge is.  Over the year, we cover an enormous number of challenges, such as a gingerbread house making competition, the After Eight game, 'beer pong' (without the beer of course) and a marshmallow highest tower building game.  After each challenge, winners earn stars, culminating in fun prizes at the end.

Middle Lodge
Meanwhile, our Year 7 girls boarding in Middle Lodge have gone for Thursday night Pineapple bingo, hot chocolate and face masks. Houseparent, Mrs Jeram, said: “They have had such fun. The girls take it in turns to name and run the bingo, and there was much excitement for the ‘line’ and ‘full house’ prizes at the end.”

Shopwyke House
‘Over the road’ in Shopwyke House, Thursday night is games night for our Year 7 boys. Houseparent, Mrs Armitage, said: “They have rejected the Switch in favour of proper board games. Connect 4 is always a favourite, as is Mastermind and tonight we got out Articulate - lots of fun!”

Orchard Lodge
On another night, Miss Lane successfully introduced our Spanish boarders to crumpets – they were a hit. She had less success with the Marmite though!!! “It was very funny,” she said!
