Cross-curricular learning: history, geography, English and art
Year 5 pupils kicked off a busy half term of trips with their visit to The Devil's Punchbowl in Surrey. They roamed as wildly as their imaginations and thoroughly enjoyed a day of outdoor learning in a new environment.
This immersive trip supported their study of 'The Highwayman' by Alfred Noyes. The children enjoyed sketching the landscape and hearing the chilling tales of the historical highwaymen. These experiences sparked all sorts of ideas for their own creative writing.
"Seeing the Sailor's Stone and Gibbet Hill consolidated the children's understanding of the type of terrain the highwaymen would have operated in and the gory punishments they received for their misdemeanours. Scary stuff!"
