Y6's field trip to study habitats, organisms and food chains

Year 6 were hosted by Chichester Harbour Conservancy at Dell Quay in an outdoor learning experience exploring habitats and food chains.

The weather was wonderful and starting in Fishbourne our students were captivated by minibeast hunting in the meadow and searching for invertebrates in the stream.  Afterwards they enjoyed a beautiful walk along the coastal path to Dell Quay and discovered many different habitats along the way.

In the afternoon, the children explored the shoreline habitat and hunted for creatures and plants on the beach, constructed food chains and identified producers, predators and prey.

The field trip was a wonderfully interactive way for students to learn about the biology of our local area and link it to their classroom learning.  The children were amazed that there is such a wide range of habitats, plants and animals locally.
