Westbourne wins National Real Tennis tournament

On Sunday Westbourne House entered three pairs into the National U13 Real Tennis Championships, which was held at The Oratory School.

The third pair - Tom B and Venetia M - played well and their game notably improved throughout the day.

The second pair - Lulu J and Barney L - served very well and had a couple of key group wins, including a notable victory over the host's team from The Oratory. They finished 4th in the tournament.

The first pair - Toby B and William F - won all their group matches, apart from one against Christchurch CCS. Christchurch CCS had a similar record of just losing one set. Therefore, the final (one set to eight games) was played between Westbourne 1 & Christchurch CCS.  In a tight contest, with an exceptionally high standard of real tennis, the scores were tied at 6-6, before Toby B and William F prevailed by narrowly winning the following two games to secure an 8-6 victory.

Westbourne House teams have entered the Nationals multiple times and in fact, in the past five years, we have been runners-up twice.  However this is the first time a Westbourne House team has won this prestigious tournament. Many congratulations to the whole team, but especially to Toby B and William F for their impressive victory.

Having won the tournament, Westbourne House is now recognised as one of the best prep schools for Real Tennis in the UK.
