At Westbourne House, we focus on simple, practical techniques that our pupils can use to feel calm, confident and in control of their wellbeing, now and in the future.
Mrs Brown, Head of Pastoral Care, organised a Wellbeing Week to teach some key techniques because "life is full of ups and downs. Whilst the ups are great sometimes it’s hard to know how to deal with the downs. More than anything, I want the children to have a bag full of options. Things to try when life gets hard."
Doggie walks and cuddles
Lunchtime with our lovely Westbourne pups! Pupils gave our school dogs lots of love and cuddles and felt at ease straight away.
Emotional freedom tapping
Our pupils explored the world of Emotional Freedom Tapping (EFT), which is a mind–body technique designed to help manage stress and emotions, using gentle tapping on acupressure points alongside focused reflection.
Thank you to former Westbourne House parent, Isabel Tuppen, for the wonderful lesson.
Mindful walk with Mr and Mrs Pitman
Mr Pitman is an expert at wellbeing and took pupils on a sensory walk around the lake, which encourage them to feel, smell, hear and touch aspects of our beautiful grounds which might go unnoticed in the busy school day. They saw crested grebes and coots and spotted the difference between the two. They touched three different stones and felt how they were affected by the heat. They took in the quiet, only hearing and feeling their breaths.
"This week was about thinking through - what could I do? What would make me feel better? It was lovely to see the engagement, the smiles and the feeling of togetherness."
