In the Tall, Tall Grass
In the final week of their fascinating topic 'In the Tall Tall Grass', which was an exploration of how plants grow and the life of minibeasts, our Year 1 pupils had the chance to explore some tall grass from a different perspective - the water! Half of the year group headed out in the canoes with Mr Knight and Mrs Rich, while the other half walked along the lakeside and waved to their friends through the reeds.
"Every pupil is so keen to canoe and get out on the lake, so we met up at the bank and swapped to ensure that everyone got a turn."

Kitted up with caps and sun cream, the groups swapped over, with the tired canoers taking some shelter from the sun as they watched the second group depart.
A pair of swans sat regally with their cygnets in the very centre of the lake, and the children had lots of questions, such as:
"What do swans eat?"
"How old are those baby ones?"
"Where do the swans sleep?"
At the other end of the lake nearer to land, some children welcomed damselflies onto their hands, and quietly observed their movements and habits. On this beautiful day, it is safe to say that everyone was at one with nature.
The following day was equally as exciting, as they worked in groups to design and draw bug hotels for some of the insects they have been learning about. They then took these designs outside to build them.
After a lot of hard work, they finished the afternoon around a campfire toasting marshmallows.
