Teen Tips for pupils and parents

Thank you to Alicia Drummond, from Teen Tips, for bringing her teen tips back to Westbourne House. She chatted to pupils in Years 7 and 8 about adolescence and the freedom, choices, risks and rewards that come with growing up.

Alicia is brilliant in the way she connects with pupils, talking about the issues they are facing - from embarrassing parents, increasing emotions and peer pressure - with humour, facts and helpful advice. The pupils came away with a greater understanding of the changes and challenges ahead. One pupil said: "It was great because she talked to us like adults."

We particularly liked one piece of advice... be gentle on your parents because it is tough on them too.

Later Alicia talked to our parents about how they can best support their children as they become teenagers and may struggle with their self-esteem. "Less is more," she said. "Forget stuff and give your children time because that is the greatest gift of all."
