Start of the music journey - Recorder & Piano Competition

Our Year 3 pupils braved performing recorder solos and piano duets in front of their classmates and parents at the much-anticipated Inter-Patrol Music Competition.

Head of Junior Department, Claire Davies

“The recorder is where my musical journey started. It's one of my most special instruments”. She encouraged the children by saying “It is difficult to read the music and also have your fingers in the right place but everyone performed wonderfully! I can tell each and every one of you practiced a great deal".

With smiles and enjoyment, the pupils were awarded patrol points and certificates for their efforts. The Otters came out on top, prompting cheers from the audience. The children showed no signs of nerves whilst playing in front of an audience and we look forward to all of the future performances as this year group progresses through the school.

The piano duets encouraged teamwork and partnership between the pupils, with the spectators nodding their heads and tapping their feet to the beat.

In the third act, pupils played their recorder alongside Mr Dichmont, Director of Music and Mr Allum, Assistant Director of Music. This demonstrated our pupils growing skills as you have to focus your attention to your own music and pace, and trust your musical partner to create a coherent piece together.
