Science trip to Lancing College

Our Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed their science trip to Lancing College. In teams, they took different scientific challenges. Biology – biological drawing, identifying local bird species, building a strong nest and building food webs. Chemistry – understanding the science behind slush puppies, looking at endothermic reactions. Physics - making a strong bridge, testing it with some very large masses and then building an aerodynamic car which was put into a wind tunnel to measure how streamlined it was – the most aerodynamic design won.

James W’s team came first in Biology and Oscar P's team came first in Chemistry. Westbourne House school came 2nd overall out of all the schools. Head of Science, Mrs Bagshaw, said: “We saw incredible bird flying displays – with African owl, falcons, a Caracara, Harris Hawks and a highlight for the children: Mr Brown being chased by one of the falcons demonstrating their speed and agility for catching prey!"

Thank you Lancing College for a wonderful day of science.
