Science at Seeley Copse

Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic day out at Seeley Copse near Goodwood, participating in a series of activities to support their science topic of Rocks and Soils.

It was an action-packed day and, in the brand new Education Centre there, the children learnt all about different rocks, soil and how important it is for our crops. They used huge sieves, made soil shapes and created their own paper planter to grow a barley seed. They learnt about organic farming and local, natural building materials like flint. The brilliant hands-on activities were enjoyed by all.

As the skies cleared, they went to build shelters in the copse. They learned about different structures and how to build them and the children worked in groups to design and make their own dens and shelters.

Mrs Pitman said: "A trip so early in the term was not only a stunning start to our science topic, but we have all had time to get to know everyone in the year and the new children and new teachers are already feeling fully part of our Westbourne family. We know the children would have had lots to talk about around the supper table!

"A big thanks to Emma and her team at Seeley Copse for a great day and also for the fresh Goodwood milk from the dairy!"
