School joins beach clean up effort

Westbourne in the Witterings

Our Year 4 pupils had a fantastic morning at West Wittering Beach helping to clean the beach. They have been learning about the environment and the protective measures that need to be taken to look after it.

“The children learned about the impact of plastic pollution on marine life and how small actions can make a big difference. It was a hands-on way to support our school charity, Surfers Against Sewage, and to see the importance of caring for our coastlines firsthand.”

Head of Year 4, Mrs Davies

Items collected include: straws, cups, plastic bags, shoe insoles, small pieces of plastic and food packaging.

The children collected more rubbish than they could ever imagine - an incredible 7.5kg in just one hour. Many hands make light work, but the success of the litter pick owed much to their collective understanding and commitment to the cause.
