Pirates on the Westbourne high seas

Year 2’s Pirate Day was a culmination of their Waterworlds topic and the Year 2 teachers were amazed at the array of fantastic outfits worn by the children.

The day began with The Missing Golden Goblet maths mystery, which the children solved in teams. They then went on to design their own fabulous treasure maps, featuring creatively named places like Devil’s Drop, Creepy Cove, Alligator Alley and Forgotten Forest and beautifully illustrated pictures.

Mrs Temple, Year 2 teacher, said: “In the afternoon Mr Knight crafted an impressive galleon-like ship for us to explore the lake in and search for treasure.  The children had worked out their own pirate names and got in to character on the boats and we could hear pirate talk aplenty, such as 'ahoy', 'batten down the hatches' and 'shiver me timbers'.

"At the bottom of the lake we saw a glint of gold, but we were unable to reach it!

"My favourite part of the day was seeing all the children working together in costume totally engrossed in creating their treasure maps and their new world.”
