News from Years 5 & 6

Charlotte Sleep and Dan Brown summarise the second half of term for Years 5 and 6.

We have stressed a number of times during the course of the term how proud we are with how Year 5 have tackled the ‘big step up’. It has also been wonderful to see the amazing support they have received from Year 6 along the way.

In form time Year 5&6 have been opening the doors of our “Kindness Advent Calendar” and Year 6 have enjoyed taking the lead with their younger peers to complete their daily challenges of kindness. We also enjoyed the Year 7&8’s Kindness Balloon event during Anti-Bullying Week.

Other highlights the children have shared are:

“Being lifted up in the middle of a rugby match - it felt like I was flying.”

and “My highlight of the term was working on the play and performing it in front of the whole school and to my sister who I never usually see."

Year 6 have continued to work their socks off this term, culminating in their fantastic performance of The Rainmaker.  All pupils demonstrated that hard work always pays off and a huge thank you to Mr Cousens and his team for giving the pupils such an opportunity to be part of something so slick, polished and enchanting.

Aside all of our festive fun (decorating our form rooms, making our Christmas hats and our year group Feasts), Year 6 have also been grappling with pre-testing.  They have survived, we are happy to report!

And of course, amongst all of this we have also had startling successes on the sports field and with our music examination results.

A big thank you to all Year 5 and 6 pupils who also found the time to contribute to our food bank appeal. It is an impressive collection under the Christmas tree in the Inner Hall and will be very gratefully received.

Years 5&6 never cease to amaze; their joie de vivre and endless energy and enthusiasm is infectious. They certainly do richly deserve their Christmas break.
