Music round-up - March 2025

This half term began with a performance not by pupils, but by our own music teachers Mr Dichmont and Mr Allum, who gave a splendid performance of 'Music for Two Pianos', raising money for the forthcoming Chapel Choir tour. Featuring music by J S Bach, Holst and Poulenc's incredible Concerto for Two Pianos, there was also a Spanish-inspired element with music by Albeniz and Scarlatti. There was an appreciative audience of current and past parents along with members of the public.

The following week saw our Rock Band, the 'Repeat Offenders', take to the stage at the Minerva Theatre in Chichester at the Ovation Rock Show, which featured student groups from across the region. They performed Island in the Sun by Weezer.

The Spring Performance Platform featured a number of very lovely performances, including from those who were preparing to take exams. Henry M gave a toe-tapping rendition of Martha Mier's Beach Buggy Boogie, Ardra J played Perlman's Hora Hatkivah very powerfully, Lucas M gave a beautifully tranquil performance of Greensleeves by Vaughan Williams and Bea B ended the evening with a haunting rendition of Indigo Moon, by Milne.

The following week saw Year 4 transform the Millennium Hall stage into an underwater world in their production of Jonah and the Whale. Featuring brilliantly inventive songs and snappy dialogue, the show also featured mesmerising costumes and impressive dance routines, with star turns from Alfie G and Avir B, both sharing the title role. Congratulations Year 4!

The term ended with a stunning concert at Boxgrove Priory featuring our Chapel Choir singing the programme they will be taking on tour to Seville next week. A capacity audience enjoyed works such as Goodall's Love Divine, Rutter's The Lord's My Shepherd, Franck's Panis Angelicus and Pergolesi's Stabat Mater. The choir fly to Seville on Monday 31 March, where they will give evening concerts at three city centre churches.

Lastly, congratulations to Dylan S and Jane W in Year 3 who were awarded the Maurice Ellis Music Scholarship earlier this term, along with Sebastian B (Year 2) and Phoebe C (Year 3) who received music lesson awards. Well done to all!
