Duckling surprise for British Science Week

The Nursery celebrated British Science Week with a series of fun activities and a special surprise.

There was great excitement at the start of British Science Week 2019 when a special delivery arrived at our Nursery from a farm in Dorset containing six beautiful, white eggs . They were put in a special box called an incubator and the children watched and waited with great anticipation, some even hoping that a dinosaur would hatch.

On Tuesday one of the eggs began to wobble and crack and everyone was delighted when our first duckling was born.  By Wednesday, we had six of these adorable fluffy little ‘yellow guys’ and it was clear that the children found them adorable and fascinating.  Not only did the Nursery children enjoy watching them hatch and grow bigger as the week progressed, but all the children in the Pre-Prep came to visit as well.

Nursery children were also busy planting cress seeds and thoroughly enjoyed Mr Brown’s special science assembly with the rest of the Pre-Prep children.  It was a thrilling event complete with the dramatic dry ice experiments and large bubbles!

On Wednesday, we all set off to visit the Science Department, where we saw stick insects, animal skulls and planted our own seeds.
