“Can I go to the moon?” asked Baby Bear

Inspired by the Jill Murphy classic Whatever Next, our Reception children spent a fantastic afternoon performing fun experiments with Mr Brown, one of our Prep School science teachers.

In Whatever Next, Baby Bear imagines blasting off into space.  We decided that this was a very exciting opportunity for the children to find out how to launch a rocket.  We enlisted the help of Mr Brown, who the children know from various scientific activities during British Science Week.

Out on the lawn, the children first attached ‘Baby Bear’ to the rockets before carefully adding water to them. Then it was over to Mr Brown to build up the pressure inside the bottles using a foot pump. After an exciting count down the children were amazed to see the rockets zoom across the playing fields.

We captured pictures, see below, and slow motion footage of the rocket blasting off. What great fun!
