Start Date: September 2015

We are currently seeking to recruit a Head of History who will also be required as a Houseparent of our Year 8 boys.  The ability to also teach Geography or RS is desirable and a contribution to the extra curricular/sporting programs will be expected.

Each year, Westbourne supports specific charities; usually an international, national and local organisation, which are chosen by the children.

Last year (2013-14) we raised an amazing £80,000 for charity!  This sum includes money raised for our four school charities - St Wilfrid's Hospice, Friends of Aldingbourne Trust, School in a Bag and Macmilan Cancer Care - as well as money raised for Children in Need, the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and Movember.  Wow!  That is a new record and something for the school community to feel very proud about.

This year (2014-15) we are supporting one local, one national and one international charity:

  • Parents & Carers Support Organisation (www.pacso.org.uk) - provides a wide variety of fun and inclusive play activities for disabled children and their siblings, giving respite care for their parents and carers in West Sussex.
  • Dwarf Sports Association UK (www.dsauk.org) - to make regular sporting opportunities accessible and enjoyable to anyone and everyone of restricted growth in the United Kingdom.
  • War Child (www.warchild.org.uk) - provides life-changing support to children whose families, communities and schools have been torn apart by war.

The Westbourne House Charity Cycle Challenge is open to riders 16+ and is perfect for the long distance cycling newbie, seasoned sportive riders and all those people up for a healthy challenge. Choose from the 20, 32 mile or the 65 mile route. The cost of entry is £25; all profits will go to the charities that the school is supporting this year (see below). Additional fundraising is optional but would be very much appreciated, so the school has registered with 'Virgin Money Giving'. Click Virgin Money Giving for instructions on how to set up your own fundraising page.

Entries are via the British Cycling Federation (BCF) website and there is a small administration fee in addition to the event entry fee. The details that you enter on the BCF website are simply part of the registration process, and if you are new to the BCF you will probably choose the option "I'm new to British cycling and want to enter the event"
Please accept the WHCC Terms and Conditions as a condition of entry so that we can keep everyone safe and happy on the day.

Charities
The WHCC was conceived as a way of raising money for the charities that the school supports. Each year the children choose different charities, this year we are supporting the following:

  • Parents & Carers Support Organisation (www.pacso.org.uk) - provides a wide variety of fun and inclusive play activities for disabled children and their siblings, giving respite care for their parents and carers in West Sussex.
  • Dwarf Sports Association UK (www.dsauk.org) - to make regular sporting opportunities accessible and enjoyable to anyone and everyone of restricted growth in the United Kingdom.
  • War Child (www.warchild.org.uk) - provides life-changing support to children whose families, communities and schools have been torn apart by war.

Money raised from WHCC entries and Virgin Money Giving will be shared out between the charities at the end of the academic year.

Helping the WHCC
If you would like to support the event in some way other than riding your bike, perhaps by offering your time or expertise or by providing goods and services, please contact the event organiser, Luke Meechan on 07885 745726.
