Home from home
The boarding houses at Westbourne House are uniquely small in size, enabling a real home away from home feel. Younger boarders live in Main House, which is just at the top of the stairs above the inner hall. Boys and girls have their own landings and the children relax in the evenings in the ‘snug’.
As pupils get older, they move to one of our smaller boarding houses in our grounds, which we call outhouses. Nearly all of our outhouses have been renovated in the last few years, and the accommodation is bright and spacious. Common areas have ample space for children to spend time together and have an evening snack.
Each boarding house is hosted by a married couple, who are the children’s houseparents. Houseparents help create a wonderful, family atmosphere and have the experience and energy to build strong relationships with the children in the boarding house. In partnership with teachers and the pastoral team, houseparents look after each boarder’s wellbeing ensuring that they are happy, healthy and thriving.
There is a positive atmosphere in each of the boarding houses and healthy
relationships between boarders and boarding house staff.
