Art gives the children an opportunity for creative expression and personal discovery. Children have a double lesson each week, plus art activities and the opportunity to use the art room in their free time.
Everyone is taught a very wide range of skills, including drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture. Learning about art and artists is interwoven through the processes. The emphasis is on individualism: every child’s art should be different and every child is an artist with different skills, which we build on.
Potential art scholars can, in Y7, join the extra art group for more intensive tuition three times a week. Students gained Art scholarships to Bedales, Lancing College and Portsmouth Grammar School last year. Children also have a weekly double lesson of Design Technology. Each child gets the opportunity to study Ceramics, Food Technology, Resistant Materials (wood & plastics) and Textiles. These are taught in rotation through the year.
The art room, ceramics studio and wood workshop are situated in the old Coach House. The food technology room was built in 2014 and offers state of the art cooking facilities. Both are featured in the Virtual Tour.
